Surrey’s T20 Dream Ends at Trent Bridge as Four Teams Secure Finals Day

Somerset's Miracle Comeback Stuns Yorkshire at Headingley

In one of the most dramatic finishes of this T20 Blast season, Somerset's defending champions pulled off an astonishing victory that will be remembered for years to come. With the score standing at 82-8 in the 15th over, chasing Yorkshire's modest total of 162, all seemed lost for the visitors. Yet Craig Overton's extraordinary innings—79 runs from just 30 deliveries—turned the match on its head in spectacular fashion. His assault included five towering sixes, three of them coming in the final over when Somerset needed 22 runs to win. This victory marks Somerset's sixth consecutive appearance at Finals Day, cementing their status as the competition's dominant force in recent years. The West Country side has won two of the last three T20 titles, and this gutsy performance suggests they remain genuine contenders for another crown. Yorkshire's Adam Lyth contributed 64 runs, but it proved insufficient as Somerset's balanced bowling attack, led by Jake Ball's 3-30, restricted them to a below-par total at Headingley this season.

Nottinghamshire Edges Surrey in Tense Trent Bridge Thriller

At Trent Bridge, Nottinghamshire Outlaws delivered a masterclass in composure under pressure, edging out Surrey by seven runs in a nail-biting encounter. Chasing 164, Surrey appeared to be cruising when Jason Roy (76) and Laurie Evans (40) put on a century partnership for the opening wicket. However, the visitors' campaign unravelled dramatically when three quick wickets fell in succession, shifting momentum entirely. Needing 12 from the final over, Surrey's hopes were extinguished by Olly Stone's crucial two-wicket burst. Jack Haynes emerged as the standout performer for Notts with an unbeaten 75, anchoring their competitive total. This victory represents Nottinghamshire's first Finals Day appearance since 2020—the year they went on to lift the trophy. Surrey, seeking their first title since 2003, will rue a collapse that saw their last seven batsmen contribute just 39 runs. The match demonstrated that Finals Day success often hinges on maintaining momentum; once Surrey's batting lineup fractured, there was no recovery possible despite their strong start.

Hampshire's Vince Powers Hawks Past Essex; Northants Complete Four-Team Lineup

Hampshire Hawks powered into Finals Day with a comprehensive 75-run demolition of Essex at the Utilita Bowl, with James Vince's explosive 125 (61 balls) providing the platform for a dominant performance. Vince's innings—the second-highest T20 score of the season—featured aggressive intent throughout and proved far too much for Essex's bowlers to contain. Joe Weatherley contributed 46 runs as Hampshire set a commanding total of 212. Recent England Test debutant Sonny Baker then showcased his potential with a devastating five-wicket haul (5-24), ripping through Essex's top order with pace and precision. This victory marks Hampshire's 12th Finals Day appearance, equalling Somerset's joint record. Meanwhile, in the final qualifier at Northamptonshire, the Steelbacks demonstrated their credentials earned during the group stages with a convincing eight-wicket victory over Gloucestershire. Ben Sanderson's four-wicket haul (4-20) proved decisive, while Ben Charlesworth's 68 steered the visitors through their early wobble. With four strong contenders now confirmed for Finals Day—Somerset, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire, and Northamptonshire—the showpiece event promises to deliver exceptional cricket.
